Endorsement for a Software Engineer: A UK Global Talent Success Story
This blog post features the success story of one of our clients, who secured endorsement under the UK Global Talent Visa with Beyond Borders on the first attempt.
Below, we explain step by step how we structured the application and built a strong case.

Client Profile

Our client is a Software Engineer with nearly 20 years of experience, working at a world-leading technology company as a Senior Staff Software Engineer (E7 level).

Shortly before applying for the Global Talent Visa, he and his family relocated from the United States to the UK through an internal company transfer to help strengthen the company's engineering team in the UK.

Challenges

The main challenge was that the client did not have a strong public profile. Unlike many successful applicants, he had:
  • no conference speaking experience;
  • no judging or mentoring activities;
  • limited public visibility within the wider tech community.

Strengths

At the same time, his profile had several outstanding strengths:
  • exceptional technical expertise gained over almost two decades;
  • a strong track record of delivering high-impact engineering projects at a world-renowned technology company;
  • contributions to open-source projects;
  • several technical articles previously published on HackerNoon.

Our Strategy

Given the client's exceptional technical background, we developed a tailored strategy focused on building a credible public profile.

Leveraging his technical expertise and professional reputation, we successfully established an authentic public presence within just 4 months. Rather than creating artificial achievements, we focused on opportunities that genuinely reflected his expertise and industry standing.
Case Structure

For this application, we submitted the maximum 10 pieces of evidence permitted by the Tech Nation guide.

Mandatory Criterion
To demonstrate that the applicant had been recognised as a leading talent in the technology sector, we submitted the following evidence:

  1. High remuneration and exceptional performance: Evidence showing that the client's remuneration exceeded the market average by approximately five times, supported by internal performance reviews confirming that he consistently exceeded expectations.
  2. We organised for him speaking at high-profile digital technology sector events: Evidence of speaking at one of the UK's largest technology conferences, attended by more than 8,000 participants over five days. To further demonstrate recognition within the UK tech ecosystem, we also included an invitation to speak at another major technology conference.
  3. The publication in specialist technology media: Evidence of a technical article that demonstrated thought leadership and reflected the client's expertise in cybersecurity. Beyond Borders: helped identify relevant topics and pitched a client to the media.
  4. Prestigious professional membership: Evidence of membership in a highly respected technology association. Admission required applicants to demonstrate that their work had delivered a significant impact on the technology industry, providing further evidence of professional recognition.

Optional Criterion 2: Recognition for Work Beyond the Applicant's Occupation

For Optional Criterion 2, we chose to demonstrate the client's contribution to the wider technology sector through his substantial track record as an open-source contributor.

We submitted two pieces of evidence relating to 2 different open-source projects. For each project, we presented relevant contribution metrics and explained its impact on the wider technology community, demonstrating that the client's work extended beyond his day-to-day employment.

In addition, we advised the client to participate in 2 hackathons as both an expert and a mentor. By the time we submitted the application, we had gathered sufficient evidence demonstrating his active contribution to the wider tech ecosystem and his commitment to supporting the community.

Optional Criterion 3: Significant Technical Contribution

As the client has a highly technical profile, we chose to demonstrate his significant technical contribution to his employer. Given the confidential nature of the projects, this required careful planning. We worked closely with the client to identify evidence that could clearly demonstrate the scale of his contribution without disclosing sensitive information. The application showed that the client had led a technical improvement that reduced the system's response time from 10 minutes to just a few seconds. We supported this with carefully prepared evidence explaining both the technical complexity of the work and its measurable business impact.

Letters of recommendations & Personal Statement

To further strengthen the application, we carefully selected highly credible referees whose letters aligned closely with the supporting evidence. Two referees focused on the client's outstanding technical contributions and the impact of his work on major engineering projects, while the third highlighted his contributions to the wider technology community through open-source initiatives, mentoring, and hackathons.

The personal statement answered the key question: "How will the UK digital technology sector benefit from your work?" Rather than relying on generic or aspirational statements, we presented a clear analysis of the challenges currently facing the UK technology sector and explained why professionals with the client's expertise are essential to strengthening the UK's digital economy and supporting its long-term innovation and competitiveness.
Conclusion

In less than six months from signing the agreement with us, the client successfully secured UK Global Talent endorsement on the first attempt.

Reflecting on his experience, the client shared:

"Their services are worth every penny. If you're pursuing a Global Talent Visa, look no further."

For us, however, this case was about much more than obtaining a visa. We helped our client build long-term security for his family while also securing formal recognition of his expertise within the UK technology sector. Most importantly, we achieved this without compromising the confidentiality of his work. By carefully structuring the evidence and presenting sensitive technical achievements in an appropriate way, we demonstrated the true scale of his impact while fully respecting his employer's confidentiality requirements.
